This year began with learning OBA and New Watsu, later a pre conference workshop was scheduled by the National Indian Association of Physiotherapy at the national conference at Goa. Unfortunately the program did not take place but, due to the promotion of conference activities the word did spread around for aquatic therapy. This was in Febraury

Then it was great time at Turkey conference on Aqua Evidence, and presentation of paper on this platform was a great boost to keep the work going on at India. This was in March.

After returning from conference, there were two back to back workshops scheduled on basic Aquatic therapy at Mumbai and later at Mysore. Both received wonderful response. This was in April.

May had a wonderful family trip to Sikkim for almost half a month. A great Break. Following month i.e. June had the first workshop on Ai Chi Basic for the therapists, at Lonavla a picturesque place near Mumbai. Following months had another conference in Mysore.

The third basic workshop was in Pune for therapists. This workshop had a person from A-Technologies presenting the intricacies of establishing a pool. This was in August. September gave me an opportunity to talk in a Conference at Delhi Neuraxis on aquatic Therapy organised by AIIMs and APMR Institutes. Am looking at another Ai Chi Program for corporate population. Another month to go.

October went on having some brainstorming for the article on Aquatics in Autism in Physiotimes. This should be coming in the next issue.

Meanwhile membership is growing in ATNI, Aquatic Therapy Nework of India. An indigenous way of preparing water dumbells was designed and the first shipment to an aquatic therapist was done. The technique is still evolving and may be will be ready by the year end. Also a Set of guidelines is getting prepared for therapists, pools and safety. Hope to have it ready by year end. A database of centers In India currently employing the pool for aquatic works is prepared and will be updated periodically. The next update on this list will be released shortly.

Phew I am really enjoying to see the changes and spirit going up. Plans have been laid to have a complete aquatic therapy center by mid of Next year. Hope I will have more to update before the year ends.

we are looking at establishing standards for Aquatic therapy practice in India. If anyone has any reference manual or standards of their countries, it will be great help to use it as a reference to establish standards in India. please send it to my mail ID.. prashanth_c_g@yahoo.com. currently I have the Australian standards with me.
There has been some technical difficulties in posting for this blog since couple of months. Looks like it is resolved now. There has been continuous activities since my trip to Turkey and am really glad about it. A group was created in Facebook two years before and now it is reaching 200 members. The group is called Aquatic Therapy Network of India. It constitutes all people working in water with aquatic body work. The group is having the members segregated into privileged, guest and honorary members. Wishing the group to grow wonderfully and the concept to have a strong foot hold and the patients in India take maximum benefit. I will be updating the activities that went on for this year.

This year has been very good in terms of water for me. It has given me good beginning with another step towards WATSU practitioner status. A project initiated to have a warm water pool in a hospital setting. And most of all an opportunity to participate in the 1st European Conference on Evidence Based Aquatic Therapy at Izmir, Turkey. It was a wonderful experience interacting with international delegates, who were doing water works in different levels. I have uploaded some pics of the event.

Istanbul was a beautiful and peaceful city that I could visit en-route to Izmir. The Sea, Culture and historical monuments takes you back in time.

The Preconference workshops updated us with some recent information and practicals in the water was fun and good learning experience. I felt the preconference workshop needs to be given more time to work on specific issues. Johan Lambeck, the Scientific Chair along with his team members led through the workshops

I presented my research paper that was done on a case of GB syndrome who recovered after aquatic therapy in water for 20 sessions. It was a case report.

Met some aquatic practitioners and clinicians who are doing enough work to develop a good evidence to prove the effects of Aquatic Therapy , Ben Waller, Javier & Marcel.

Also heard Bruce Becker talk about how he got into this field of Aquatic Therapy. A person with high intellect, knowledge and pleasing personality.

It was a great time at Izmir, with many acquaintances and insight into the work that needs to be done yet.
